Getting demographic data which is accurately and always on schedule, various efforts have been conducted by BPS (National Center for Statistics) for example by conducting Population Censuses (SP), Population Registration and Demographic Survey.  Population Censuses is conducted every ten years with the main aim to obtain demographic marking information and socio – economic.

The first Population Censuses had been conducted after the Independence of Indonesia in 1961,The second in 1971 then 1980, 1990 and the last in 2000, where the Population Censuses is represent main source of demographic data.

The number of population of Garut Regency were as many as 2,309,773 people, consisting of 1,174,800 men and 1,134,973 women.  Thus the sex ratio (number of men/women X 100) in Garut Regency was 103,51.
